Flag

KMFA offers 2 Flag Football programs through the year – Outdoor Spring Flag and Indoor Winter Flag.

We are proud of the fact that we have the largest Spring flag football program in BC and it continues to grow each year as more boys and girls are discovering the fun in playing flag football. Our program is a 5v5 format, open to boys and girls ages 6* to 18 with any level of playing experience. Games are played on Sundays, in a jamboree style format of four 25-minute long games each weekend. Games are generally played at the same location each week. The Spring Season runs from April to June, wrapping up with playoffs on the final weekend of play.

Age Divisions

Age Divisions are based on birth year: *players must turn the appropriate age by December 31 of the playing year. The next season that will open for registration will be Winter 2020, January to March. Check back later in the Fall for program details.

League - Winter 2020 Age Range
U10 7-9 (birth years 2011, 2012, 2013)
U12 10-11(birth years 2009, 2010)
U14 12-13 (birth years 2007, 2008)
U16 14-15 (birth years 2005, 2006)
U18 16-17 (birth years 2003, 2004)

The season begins with an Evaluation day for all players to run through drills and skills, then Coaches draft their teams. In addition to the Coaches/Assistant Coaches children, a coach may pre-select 1 – 2 players (with approval of the selected player’s parents) to form a core of 3 players prior to the draft process. Once teams are chosen, practice days/times/locations are at the discretion of the Coach, 1 – 2 times per week.

The Winter Flag Season runs from January to March, for the kids who just can’t get enough, and is a great way to continue building up skills and experience. Play is limited to Sundays only for practice and games. Registration opens in the Fall and limited spaces are available in each age division due to the constraints of indoor field time and space. Age divisions for registration are U10 – U16.

Provincial Tournament

Each June, BCCFA hosts an open, province wide tournament at our Mission Sportsfields for U10 through U19 divisions. Each division draws an average of 30 teams or more from all over the Lower Mainland up to Prince George for a fun weekend of challenging competition. Other than our fields being used, KMFA has no affiliation to the organization of the tournament. Teams interested in entering the tournament will need to be registered individually through Esportsdesk and an additional team fee paid. At the start of our regular season, coaches must inform their teams of their intent for this tournament – some coaches take their regular house league team as drafted (if all players want to participate) into the tournament, while others choose to enter a specially selected team. All KMFA players are eligible for this tournament and KMFA will work to ensure your child has a team to play with if they want to participate or parents may source a team for their child to play with.

Equipment Care

KMFA is leading the way to improving the safety of play by being one of the first organizations to adopt the mandate for all players to wear a softshell helmet during practices and games. A $100 deposit will be required at the start of the season and returned/destroyed when the helmet is collected at the end of the season. Through the season, helmets may be washed in your regular laundry cycle.
